across the mirror a world

I don’t like so much photographs with unfocused zones. This is because I started with compact cameras whose small sensors let that everything seems focused; besides as an architect my drawings show sections and elevations with clear lines, the difference in an elevation among objects near and far is the line thickness, but everyone of them is a clear and direct line.

But sometimes when the composition deserves it I open to the maximum the aperture and shot abstract forms. Actually bokeh is the quality and nature of that unfocused areas. The bigger the sensor the most obvious is the unfocused zone in a photograph, so although you win dynamic range, resolution, etcetera, you lose focus for example in landscapes or in portraits when the face is not parallel to the sensor plane one eye can be unfocused and, trust me my friend, that’s not nice. To compensate you have to close the aperture and use tricks like focus stacking in software or hyperfocal in lenses.
