Portrait of a Sunset

When I was five and six years old I liked to read, and even before see the figures of encyclopedias and comics; but there was no electric light so I just could do it till four o’clock (in the Andean highlands the sunset is usually at 5:30 pm, go figure) Older brother was in school and parents working so with nothing to do I just sat down in a wooden rocking chair to see the sunsets across the giant old pine. I wouldn’t be surprised if that old pal would be more than one hundred years. Probably because that reason, in part, I liked le petit prince, seeing again, and again, the sunsets; also the Hoppers’ paints, with people taking the sun alone.

One day I photographed a sunset until the twilight. Just because…

  1. These are all stunning! I love the whole progression. Does the as quickly in the highlands as it does on the coast?

    1. Actually in the coast the sunset occurs later (near 7pm in summer). And if you refer if it happens so quickly actually, yes. I tried to shot to photograph the sunset near the sea but it was quite fast!
Said that these series are in Arequipa city, hallway to the highlands and the sea. Thanks Melissa, I’m glad you liked it, good evening there ^_^

  2. beautiful sunset shots full of glorious colour. The column of fire looks like a reflection on water.
Here we’ve now got to the time of year where the sun doesn’t set til about 9.30pm, and it stays light til about 10, I like the long evenings :)

    1. Flickr “thought” that in its auto-tag feature :D, it tagged as water the photograph o.O The clouds were perfect that day so the sunset was going to have a surface to make bold colors.
Wow, that sounds pretty exotic to me. There was a girl, a friend from Berlin, that was quite bored here because the night was so soon. Thanks kind lady :-)

  3. Beautiful sunset! <3
You remind me my childhood, I have the same childhood memory!! I lived in a small town with no electricity, and yes, I took all my book to the frond yard to read 'till the sun down. My parents were at work, I was a bit afraid to stay at home alone so I found things to do 'till they were home with me.

    1. Thanks and wow, so similar ^_^! It seems the only difference among us was the climate. Nice to find somebody that can relate my experiences :-) Take care hadorable reader ;-)

    1. Because beauty is something that happens just because, without reasons. I think it’s the first time somebody really understand what I wrote in the way I thought it. Thanks very much, Caroline. I’m always discovering you again and again like the first time.
